Peak irony: petrol squeeze triggers scramble away from renewables

Andrew L. Urban

Wouldn’t it be the ultimate irony of all time if an Iran engineered shortage of fossil fuels in the West triggered a scramble for …er…fossil fuels in the sillysphere! Could the US/Israel war on the Islamic Republic of Iran have the unintended consequence of a realisation that actually, um, renewables just can’t satisfy modern economies. From petrol for transport to diesel for life sustaining agriculture, it’s coal, oil and gas…

This possibility has been moved front and centre as the Strait of Hormuz is turned into a death trap for tankers by an enraged Iran, who is choking the Strait to hurt the West. Here is where the irony triples: the US is self sufficient and untouched by the lack of access to oil from the Strait. Only Greek gods could devise such a web of ironies – pointing to the stupidity of climate change policies.

Just a thought …
