Illegal migration fuels a new American civil war

By Andrew L. Urban.

It’s already started. A US Attorney General is threatening to arrest a US Sheriff over handling of criminals who are illegal migrants.

Much of the anti Trump media and their echoes in Australia must believe people are fools, given their propensity for misleading (fake?) reporting – especially on the explosive issue of illegal migration. Take the latest example, published March 30, 2018, by Anna Flagg in The Marshall Project* ‘in collaboration with the New York Times’ Upshot’. The headline reads ‘The Myth of the Criminal Immigrant’ with the slug ‘The link between immigration and crime exists in the imaginations of Americans, and nowhere else.’

It begins with a statement that omits the crucial descriptor ‘illegal’, which then appears in the next paragraph when Trump is quoted directly.

“The Trump administration’s first year of immigration policy has relied on claims that immigrants bring crime into America. President Trump’s latest target is sanctuary cities. “Every day, sanctuary cities release illegal immigrants, drug dealers, traffickers, gang members back into our communities,” he said last week. “They’re safe havens for just some terrible people.”

Either the author, publishers and their fellow democrats are really stupid and can’t tell the difference between migrants and illegal migrants, or they are deliberately lying to mislead their readers. Well, which do you think?

On the difference pivots what is shaping up to be a new American civil war, with illegal migration the fuel. The battlefields will be (already are) those places that declare themselves sanctuary cities, offering legal safety for illegal migrants who have committed serious crimes in America.

California’s Attorney General, Xavier Becerra, for example, has threatened to arrest Orange County sheriff Sandra Hutchens for working with federal agencies in arresting illegal immigrants being released from jail, to be deported. She said she was concerned for the safety of citizens in Orange County. The conflict has other manifestations, including the hundreds of sheriffs who want to see sanctuary cities criminalised – and the wall built.

Sheriff Thomas M. Hodgson of Bristol County, Massachusetts, has gathered with about 380 sheriffs from across America, representing 40 states, to ask Congress to push Trump’s agenda that would help decrease and end illegal immigration to the United States.

“Enough is enough,” the sheriffs write.

The sleight of hand begins with the misleading statement that “The Trump administration’s first year of immigration policy has relied on claims that immigrants bring crime into America.” Wrong. To be accurate, it would read more like this: ‘The Trump administration’s first year of policy on illegal immigrants has underscored the risk that illegal immigrants who are criminals bring crime into America.’

Why does so much of the media pervert truth like this? Because the ultimate aim is to undermine the Trump legitimacy. What they have failed to factor in is that the massive campaign to do that has emboldened extreme elements (which includes enraged Democrats) to defy the rule of law – and the security of citizens in the process.

Would the Governor Becerras of America deal with American citizens the same way?

Would they take responsibility for criminals who are illegally in America moving around the country committing serious crimes? What’s to stop them? What do States who do not welcome criminals with open arms have to say about this? We don’t have to guess: we know from stories like the one about those Sheriffs like Hodgson, they are angry. It would not take much provocation for a confrontation between the two positions to flare up, igniting the fire of violence.

* The Marshall Project “seeks to create and sustain a sense of national urgency about the U.S. criminal justice system.” It was named by its founder Neil Barsky after Thurgood Marshall, the first African-American justice of the U.S. Supreme Court.
