It’s not bad taste; it’s ugly hate speech wrapped in a torture porn fantasy. I bet you know exactly what I’m talking about.
Yep, I’m piling on to the outrage expressed by so many at the ABC’s inexcusable transgression, broadcasting sheer hate speech in the guise of satire. Satire? They wish! That now infamous short targeting Gina Reinhart that is long on hate, short on humour, long on graphic description of violence, short on any redeeming features. Never mind legal issues, the public can see political hatred and moral depravity when it sees it.
The ABC’s stubborn refusal to apologise for putting it to air is proof that management has no moral compass, is gripped by a vicious hatred of the political right and no longer able to keep the organisation’s producers, executives and the dullard minions serve Australia. It has demeaned itself and us all. The ABC has claimed the item complies with ABC standards. Good grief! No wonder the many calls for it to be defunded.
All those involved in the production and dissemination of this piece of trash share in the disgust they have generated. It’s a gang of hooligans metaphorically lynching a woman – because they can.
The irony is that it is not Gina Rinehart who is degraded by this short film: it is those who made it and approved it … and those like the PM, the Minister for Communications, and the big-mouth ‘feminist’ women who are silently complicit.
I just wish those rightly criticising the short weren’t so keen to list Rinehart’s generosity and success in their outrage, as true all that is. It wouldn’t matter if the targeted woman were an unknown conservative female. But what if the subject had been Labor’s Tanya Plibersek? Or Fatima Payman, the Muslim MP?
