Election 2028 – the movie

Casting has begun for a new big budget Australian movie set on the eve of the 2028 federal election. A panel in a pre-election results discussion on News24 is discussing the chances of One Nation winning in its own right and guesstimating what Labor’s primary vote may be. Viewers are told the panel will be back after the break with the first results…

The story, told mostly in flashbacks, begins in September 2026 with the announcement by One Nation’s Pauline Hanson, that Sydney corporate high flyer Georgia Galloway has joined the party. She has her own jet. The charismatic and eloquent 50 year old tells the news conference that she has resigned from her position as the CEO of Magnus Corp to dedicate her energies to helping One Nation win the coming election, “for Australia’s sake.”

Six months later, One Nation elects Galloway as its leader and Hanson is made party Chairman.

This hypothetical movie, titled Now Explained, ends with One Nation winning 40% of primary votes, with preferences giving it the majority in the House of Reps. Galloway is credited with wrangling One Nation to victory, with clear policies and promises that reflect all that One Nation has said before she was made leader as well as new policies minted by Galloway and former Hanson Chief of Staff James Ashby.

In this scenario, what One Nation needed to assert its supremacy over rivals was a first class communicator with unassailable credibility and solid confidence. Not only did disaffected Liberals continue to support One Nation, silent supporters from both the left and the right massed at the voting booths.
