Truth on social media – Geoffrey Robertson is keen

Andrew L. Urban

It’s a wonderful idea as espoused by high profile human rights lawyer Geoffrey Robertson on Sharri (Sky News, Sunday, 4 July, 2021): comments on social media (eg facebook) should be assessed by a select, independent and authoritative group for truth and accuracy. This signals the beginning of the end of the climate change apoplexy: if alarmism is restricted to facts, it will be extinguished within a week. Likewise alarmism around the Covid-19 infection.

If only we could introduce such a system with guarantees that facts will rule. The track record of big tech so far is risible, insisting as they have on deleting factual content that conflicts with their preferred propaganda (eg their denials that hydrochloroquine & ivermectin are effective treatments).

Needless to say Robertson’s example was Donald Trump, who, he maintains, should be heard but corrected. I would say ‘bring it on’.

Which brings me to Oscar Wilde’s observation that ‘the truth is rarely pure and never simple’.

It was Sunday morning in London, from where Robertson spoke live on Sharri; at one point as we focused on Sharri Markson speaking in the Sydney studio, Robertson took a sip of a red liquid in a wine glass. Oscar Wilde knew what he was talking about …

Hi Andrew. Everyone should be heard but corrected, like witnesses and lawyers in court . I presume that Geoffrey would agree with that , or do I stand corrected. It’s only when people are not corrected that lies , untruths or mistakes continue to do damage. By the way Geoffrey , as I did , went to Epping boys high school . A bright lad , destined for great heights. I once hoped that as an Epping boy he might have taken pity on me and taken up the case of righting the wrong against me. Alas i asked , but Geoffrey did not respond. I know , “did I ,once again ,expect too much from a lawyer. Please correct me if I’m wrong regards . Pv

All I can do is ask. Why did it take 10 years to clear lindy chamberlain , why did it take 3 years to clear Gordon Woods , why did it take 2 yrs to clear George pell , why did it take 20 years to clear Keogh in SA ???? In all those cases , the things that proved their innocence were available at the beginning of their prosecutions . ….now that’s injustice. I need sir lunch a lot , the lawyer who defended me 10 years ago to go to the Chief Justice and tell him he stuffed my case and beg him to be forgiven and ask him to overturn my case ! Wishful thinking ….Absolutely !” I have a dream !” A wonderful man once said. Kind regards pv ps I’ve never asked my SC to admit publicly he stuffed my defense. Until now !!
