Cartoon too ‘upsetting’ to print

Andrew L. Urban

A cartoon (see below) by veteran cartoonist Michael Leunig scheduled for publication on September 7, 2020, was pulled from The Age because apparently the senior editorial staff thought it conveyed views about mask wearing that might upset readers. Leunig has since publicly revealed the cartoon was primarily about what he saw as “disturbing” force used by Victorian police against anti-lockdown protesters,” reports The Australian’s media section today (Oct. 12, 2020).
